After causing an uproar on social media by announcing the “discontinuation” of its iconic rubber bands, fast-food giant Chicken Licken has revealed it was all an April Fools’ joke.

The restaurant franchise sparked the frenzy on Tuesday after posting an announcement informing customers that it would no longer use the famous rubber bands to secure meal boxes.

“After much consideration, we’ve made the decision to discontinue our rubber bands at all Chicken Licken branches with immediate effect,” Chicken Licken stated. They even added that “remaining rubber bands will be available while stocks last,” suggesting the end of an era.

The news triggered a massive wave of nostalgia and concern across social platforms. Fans reacted with sadness, citing the rubber band as a unique and iconic part of the Chicken Licken experience.

However, on Wednesday, the brand put fans at ease by announcing the post was a prank and confirming that the rubber bands are here to stay.

“Holding your meals and your life together. Long live the rubber band. Happy April Fools!” Chicken Licken shared in a follow-up post.
