An extra 150 rangers will be deployed to the Kruger National Park this year to combat rhino poaching, Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa said.

Molewa, speaking at a National Press Club briefing in Pretoria, said that would bring the number of rangers at the park up to 650.

The announcement follows the killing of 11 rhino in South Africa this year.

Two poachers, and two other people, have been killed in connection with rhino poaching in the Kruger National Park this year.

In 2011, 448 rhino were killed in South Africa.

"The poaching of our rhino is a great source of concern to the government. A total of 232 people have been arrested for rhino poaching," Molewa said.
