One person sustained minor injuries after four armed suspects stormed into a crèche in Howick, near Pietermaritzburg, on Thursday.

According to Russel Meiring of ER24, the victim was treated on scene after being assaulted with a pistol.

"A man, believed to be in his 30s was assessed and found to have sustained only minor injuries after he was hit on the head with a pistol during the robbery. Fortunately, no children were injured in this incident," he said.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele confirmed the incident and said a case of business robbery was being investigated.

"Four unknown armed males entered business premises in Sunberry Road and robbed the staff of a cellphone and cash. No shots were fired and a case of business robbery was opened at Howick police station for investigation," said Mbele.
