Eastern Cape ANC heavyweight and soccer boss Xolile Nkompela is being investigated for allegedly slapping a taxi driver.

Nkompela is the OR Tambo ANC regional chairman and SA Football Association (Safa) deputy president.

The Daily Dispatch reported on Friday that 27-year-old taxi driver Zubenathi Dazana was allegedly slapped twice while offloading passengers last Thursday in Tsolo.

Nkompela‚ who is facing a charge of common assault‚ has denied the allegation and described it as a smear campaign by his detractors.

He said the taxi was blocking a shop entrance.

“I thought he was going to say something or ask for directions but instead he leaned inside the window and slapped me twice‚” said Dazana.
