Earlier this year a TikTok argument on a soccer fan running around in soccer jerseys revealed a number of people, including Brazilians, love to wear soccer jerseys as a casual lifestyle choice.
As the spotlight on this issue grew it quickly encouraged young and old TikTokers to start including soccer jerseys in their closets.
Trendsetters sought to make it fashionable by creating a distinct styling. Straight-cut bottoms and Adidas Sambas. Over time, the trend grew to the point where variations have encouraged lovers of the trend to take their own liberties with this Fifa World Cup 2022-ready style.
Most of the jerseys worn include classic colourways from vintage brands such as Brazil’s canary yellow offering, the Parisian soccer jersey with Fly Emirates emblazoned across the chest and even the Bafana Bafana soccer jersey from the 1990s. The latter has seen local designers such as Refuse Clothing reimagine it for their autumn/winter 2023 collection.
While brands such as Koche have given these jerseys a new spin, the likes of Balenciaga have centred their brands to create their own custom soccer jerseys.
