Crypto-Knight, by email: I read with interest the article on what to do with an elderly parent who wishes to move in (The Times, May 16).

I look after my mother of 85 years, and it is an honour, a privilege and a duty.

My parents did not cringe at the thought of feeding me, bathing me, carrying me, training me, educating me, protecting me when I was helpless.

I believe that modern society has become ruinously selfish, to their own detriment.
