SA Breweries will provide beer at the Fifa Fan Fests during the World Cup, the company said.

"SAB will be providing a limited run of lager and a light lager for the Fan Fests, and will provide stock and support to the organisers of the areas," SAB said.

This followed an agreement between SAB, the host cities and Fifa.

Recently, Anheuser-Busch Inbev, the brewer of Budweiser - the official beer sponsor of the World Cup - decided not to take up the opportunity of providing beer at the Fan Fests, though the company would use its "pouring rights" within the stadiums.

SAB estimated the Fan Fest areas would account for between 40000hectalitres and 50000hectalitres of beer - that's between 8million and 10million beers.

The 10 Fifa Fan Fests will be the official public viewing events staged by each of the host cities, together with Fifa and the local organising committee.

SAB was confident that it had more than enough capacity to host all the visitors expected for the World Cup, and increased consumption by South Africans.

Brewing would be stepped up in April and May, SAB said.
